Beaches, Tonala, and Enrigue Pena Nieto pictures

Beaches, Tonala, and the President Of Mexico

I haven't blogged in a little while.  These last two weeks were busy with papers and tests as well as beach excursions, school trips, and  the President of Mexico being near my house.  Next week I also have a lot of papers, tests, and presentations so I will be busy.
To relax before this week I am going back to Puerto Vallarta with one of my friends.  I went last weekend as well. It was very pretty and relaxing and I am excited to be going back.  Puerto Vallarta is an amazing city in Mexico that has a really pretty beach, nice hotels, and plenty of things to do.
Aside from this, I also went to Tonala which is a city close to Guadalajara where there are a lot of artisan crafts and markets.  While there, I say Munecas de Lupita which are hand crafted dolls that are made in Tonala and shipped all around the world, I saw vidrio soplado , which are figures of glass that  are made of recycled glass.  This glass can be remade into kitchen sets, plates, bowls, etc.  I also went to a pottery place where 4 generations of a family work. President Obama, the former President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of Canada have eaten from plates that were made from this very place. There is a picture of these three men in the place and it was really interesting to see. As well as this, I also got to see a paper mache place. The things they had in it were pretty. Life sized paper mache cows, a life sized paper mache peacock, and paper mache fishes were just a few of the things that I saw in this place.  It was really cool to see as well.  I definitely want to go back to this city if given the chance.
As well as this, I wanted to talk about seeing Enrique Pena Nieto.  When I came home from school, there were about 20 police officers and a truck of about 20 army members, and about 10 private security guards in front of my house.  Caught a little off guard, I walked into the house with my friend and tried to figure out what might be going on and then my Senora told me about the President of Mexico and the Governor of Jalisco being about four blocks away from the house.
So, this week has been exciting and busy for me.   Thank you for reading!

Guanajuato and San Miguel Allende.

So last week has been a calm one.  I didn't really do anything special except for go to Guanajuato and San Miguel Allende this weekend.  Both of the cities were amazing.  They were both colonial cities that we made in the mountains and still has cobblestone streets. The people that live in these cities have done a good job preserving its beauty.  During this trip I got to see Diego Rivera's, a famous Mexican muralist, house, La callejon de besos, which is a street that has two houses across from one another that nearly touch, (There is a legend (the link-
http://www.explorandomexico.com/about-mexico/5/227/) that is like the Mexican version of Romeo and Juliet, if you and your significant other you will have good luck), as well as to the Universidad of Guanajuato which is very colonial looking and pretty. I also took a tour on San Miguel Allende and saw a few things and a market there. Lastly, I had my first experience in a hostel.  A hostel is basically like a large dorm room where many young travelers stay to save money and meet others.  It was definitely an experience. Even though it was raining ninety percent of the time and it was very exhausting, this mini weekend trip was well worth it.
This week I am planing on having lunch with Dr. Valencia who is down here with family while I am studying. I am very excited to see her and glad that I go to a university where your teacher can come visit you while you are studying abroad.  As well as this, this weekend, as we have a long weekend from school, I am going to go to Puerto Vallarta which is a really pretty beach here in Jalisco.  Thanks for reading and have a good week.

A Man From My University Told Me Not To Do Anything In Mexico That I Wouldn't Do In The United States But I Did Anyways...

Nothing illegal of course but I got more adventurous than I would be and will ever be in the United States.  This has probably been one of the best weeks, aside from a lot of my friends and roommates that I met that only stayed for one month leaving yesterday and the tears that were shed over it, that I have had while I was here.
After saying goodbye to  a lot of the people I met here, I went to the Guadalajara Zoo with some of my friends and roommates that still remain and it was amazing.  It is the biggest zoo in Latin America A lot of the exhibits were open, meaning that you could walk through them while the animals were not behind any cages. The kangaroos, monkey, and bird exhibits were like this. As well as this they had an aquarium where I learned a new Spanish word. Tiburones which means sharks in English. I learned this word because I went into an immersion tank with them with two of my friends. One thing I would never do in the US which I might now though because it wasn't all that bad.  I got to spend 15 minutes in the tank for the equivalent of eight US dollars. It was great. We were at the zoo for four hours and we still didn't get to see half of it.  We are making plans to go back in the future.
As well as this, me and this same group of friends went to Lake Chapala which is the biggest lake in the state of Jalisco.  It was really pretty and a little beachy.  We also went to this restaurant where you could have a view of the beach and listen to a live band performing.  There was also a parade going on while we were there with some Native American dancing as well as some religious events. And finally, we went on a boat ride in Lake Chapala and landed on a little island full of restaurants and a little market where I bought seashells and a little handmade boat, which I lost yesterday in the restaurant, but I will be able to get again when I go to Puerto Vallarta or back to Lake Chapala. I don't like to be out on the water so this was another thing that I did here that I wouldn't do back at home that I might do now that I saw it wasn't that bad. I have some pictures from the zoo which are on my Facebook because there are too many to post for everyone to see. Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.
