Great and Busy Week

What an awesome week. I did a lot of different activities this week. I went to a salsa bar, a mexican style wrestling match, to my favorite restaurant here in Guadaljara so far, El Gordo Steak, and today with my school I went to Tequila.  A city that is a major part in the production of...you guessed it. Tequila, which I found out today is only made and can be made in Mexico.  I plan on going to Tlaquepaque this weekend with some of my friends as well as fitting in some studying time and errands tomorrow. I will leave you all with some pictures that I took from Tequila today. Enjoy and thank you for reading.

Mexico City Trip

So this weekend I went to Mexico City.  We saw the Palacio Nacional, Templo Mayor  , Catedral, Edificios de Avenida Modero, La Profesa, Palacio de Iturbide, La Casa de los Azulejos, Museo Nacional de Antropologia e Historia, Coyoacan, La Villa, and Teotihuacan, and  we ate at the first Sanborns restaurant made and we stayed in the beautiful Hotel Mallarca. The city was really pretty and I because we saw so much I am confused as to what is what so I left a link(s) of information about all the places for anyone that is interested.
http://www.mexicocity.gob.mx/
(This is the government website and it can be translated into English or whatever language that you choose.   You can put each of the places that I described in the search bar and information will come up about each one.
I also went to another market and bought an Aztec calendar which will be a decoration for my first Spanish classroom as well as a little stone turtle and an aztec statue and a purse that has Mexico written all over it literally.  A lot of these things are really cheap in Mexico and I am enjoying getting little gifts for people.
I really enjoyed the trip very much and it was full of information and great activities. Another thing that I also enjoyed was the ride to Mexico City.  Guadalajara and Mexico City are major cities which are fun to be in but during the ride I was able to see some of the more rural parts of Mexico.  Not much is more peaceful than driving past a picture perfect scene of farm animals and vegetation.  I took some pictures of that as well as some other Mexican towns.  It was nice to see because the big cities remind me a lot of the United States and I wanted to see something that felt just a little more different.  So, I am going to leave you all with all of the pictures that I took and thank you for reading.
I have two tests and a presentation to study for tomorrow. I am really excited for them ( I really like school ans class and all that stuff) so I will post again soon about my other endeavors in Guadalajara.

First Week of Classes/Second Week in Guadalajara

So I had a great first week of classes here in Guadalajara. I really feel like I have learned alot more Spanish in my intensive courses as well as thorough talking with Mexican people in restaurants, public transportation, school, and in the markets that I have been going to.
To start off talking about classes, I like how my classes here are set up. I have class from 9 to 1 and then a few hours of homework and them I have nights to myself to explore the city. I love the way that everything has been working out with school thus far. Also my grammar and conversation professors are very nice and helpful and my conversation professor has been showing me different ways and ideas to teach Spanish in the United States. It has been very helpful for me. School is going great so far and I really like my other university.
As well as classes, I have been exploring the city a little bit with the other international students from the university. We went to a restaurant called Expresame and to another called El Gordo Steak. In both restaurants, we got really good service and a lot of food for not a lot of money. There are a lot of good restaurants on the street that is in front of my house so I have been exploring that as well. As well as this, I went to the Guadalajara Centro for the second time, but this time I went to the markets. I bought some purses (one for me and some for other people), a small change purse (coin pesos really add up), a paper birds that flys and makes noise by itself when you wind it up (my inner child), and some key chains and some other things for my family and friends. I am still looking for cool little things like post cards to bring to everyone so they can have a little piece of Mexico as well. The markets that I have seen here are great and I still can't get over all of the beauty that this city has. One last major thing that I have done this weekend was explore the nightlife of Guadalajara with a few of my friends. While we were walking through the city we happened to come upon some dancing. Some of the dancing was traditional and the people had traditional clothing from here. That was cool to see too. I have some pictures and links to videos.  They are below.

Thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your weeks.

First Day of School/The Virgin of Zapopan

I officially had my first day of classes in Mexico.  They went really well, I have a 100 minute grammar class and a 100 minute conversation class Monday-Friday.  It was nice to acquaint with all of the international students. We asre a diverse group of students.  There are students from Germany, China, Japon, Korea, the United States and other Latin American countries, as well as many others I am probably missing all in my class only.  It;s nice sharing this experience with so many different people.

Yesterday, I also had the pleasure to see a parade of the Virgin of Zapopan, which I out a wikipedia article under this to give you all more information as I do not know much about it. The parade was very pretty and came right down the street that I live in.

Some pictures of my campus/Guadalajara Center

So I went to the center of Guadalajara on a tour with the other new students at my universoty. Let me just say that it was beautiful and had a lot of history.  In my short three hour tour I was only really able to take pictures of everything but not really tell you all about the history behind it.  I will go back again, probably tomorrow with my senora to get better information.  I saw a lot of interesting things from markets, historical buildings and churches, foods and drinks, I had agua de pepinos which is mainly cucumber and other fruit juices there, the corn festival, and I even day someone floating in the air meditating, which I am sure and am hoping was an  illusion.  I just wanted to show everyone the pictures that I took from it.

I also have some pictures of my campus which were a little difficult to get because the safety officers don't let you take pictures of certain parts of the university but I was able to get some.

Thank you all and have nice days.
